Mau'u aki aki is a nati ve sedge grows in tufts that can be 10 inches high. The light green blades are narrow and stiff. The flowers look like a cluster of brown spikes and appear on the end of a stem just above the ends of the blades.

This sedge can be found growing in and around rocky areas and can survive harsh conditions. It is drought tolerant and can withstand full sun and salt exposure.
